Subject: Fwd: CHAOS AT NEWARK VOCATION?
To the Superintendent, Executive Staff, and Advisory Board:
Parents MUST be able to go seek direct redress from responsible parties when problems arise with their children. I have been asked to intervene on behalf of several senior parents of the Secondary Parent Council because this is not the case (or at least perceived not to be the case by some).
These two matters require yourimmediate attention at Newark Vocational.
MISSING GRADES
First, seniors at Newark Vocational do not have updated transcripts because their freshmen year physical education and/or health grades were lost and/or eradicated recently. Parents were told this will require hand manipulation even though some parents possess copies of their children’s grades. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! How did this happen and when will this be rectified?
STUDENT MELEE:
On last Tuesday, October 4, 2011, there was a melee between students from Newark Leadership Academy (Youth Build) and Newark Vocation during school hours in the school building. This is a safety issue because the co-located students are older than the students at Newark Vocation. This melee compelled the cancellation of the HSPA examination, which must be rescheduled.
Was a report of this incident given? Were the parents and student body informed?
What steps are being taken to prevent incidents of this type from reoccurring in the future? We have never had the HSPA examination postponed due to a school being out of control.
What steps are being taken to address the school culture?
What support and/or training will the District offer to this new principal from NYC?
Please advise the date of a parent meeting at Newark Vocation which will address these major concerns.
