CITY OF NEWARK COMMUNITY CALENDAR OF EVENTS
The City of Newark’s Fire Department is hosting a “Firehouse Community Day” on Saturday, October 22, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Engine 10/Ladder 5, located at 360 Clinton Avenue, in the South Ward. Fire officials, firefighters, and experts will be on-hand to meet and greet residents, give them tours of the firehouse, demonstrate the use of a fire hose and extinguisher, and provide fire safety and prevention tips. The City of Newark’s Division of Recreation/Cultural Affairs is hosting FREE Photography Classes from October 21 through December 17, at the Boylan Street Recreation Center. The center is located at 916 South Orange Avenue. The City of Newark’s Division of Recreation/Cultural Affairs is hosting a FREE “Decorating On A Shoestring” class, to enable residents to decorate their homes stylishly “with champagne taste and a beer budget.” The class will be held on Tuesdays at Noon from October 25 through November 22 at the Ironbound Recreation Center, which is located at 226 Rome Street in the East Ward. The City of Newark’s Division of Recreation/Cultural Affairs will launch this year’s youth Double-Dutch team, named, “Team on the Move,” with a meeting and practice for interested jumpers on Friday, October 28, 2011, at 5:30 p.m., at the John F. Kennedy Recreation Center. Practices will continue every Friday at 5:30 p.m. and every Saturday at 12:30 p.m., at the same site. The John F. Kennedy Recreation Center is located at 211 West Kinney Street, with the entrance on Howard Street. This year’s Double-Dutch squad is open to youth in grades three through eight.
