Newark, NJ – October 26, 2011 – Mayor Cory A. Booker, the Municipal Council, Police Director Samuel A. DeMaio, Police Chief Sheilah A. Coley and NJ TRANSIT are advising Newark residents and visitors that on Thursday, November 3 and on Friday, November 4, during the hours of 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., there will be extensive traffic delays in the area around City Hall and Downtown Newark along McCarter Highway, Market Street, Raymond Boulevard, Broad Street, Mulberry Street, Halsey Street, Washington Street, and University Avenue, due to street closures and the re-routing of buses.
Newark Police will intermittently close the section of Raymond Boulevard between Mulberry Street and Broad Street to all traffic. Residents and visitors are advised to avoid downtown Newark and Broad Street if at all possible on both days.
NJ TRANSIT is also advising customers of adjustments to Newark Light Rail and bus service in downtown Newark on Thursday, November 3 and Friday, November 4 at Military Park Station. As a result of the filming, the Newark Light Rail will not operate between Newark Penn Station and Orange Street Station and between Newark Penn Station and Broad Street Station on both days.
In addition, buses that normally operate on Raymond Boulevard will be rerouted to Market Street due to intermittent road closures on Raymond Boulevard between McCarter Highway, Mulberry Street and Broad Street. To minimize delays, the City of Newark has provided NJ TRANSIT with a dedicated bus lane on Market Street. NJ TRANSIT is posting printed customer service notices and other signage at all Newark Light Rail stations. Additionally, NJ TRANSIT ambassadors or operations personnel will be on-hand at stations with substitute bus service to personally assist customers during peak service times.
