FLSA Status: Non-exempt Compensation: $36,500.00 annually
Position Summary:
The Community Organizer serves as a critical link into the communities that La Casa serves. The Organizer is responsible for the development and stewardship of local leaders to implement community-planning efforts that address public safety, education, access to healthcare and other topic areas that will make our communities better places to live, work and play. Working as part of a team, the Organizer will assist with the implementation of the Transforming Lower Broadway Quality of Life Roadmap; Hispanic Traffic Safety initiatives; the Neighborhood Association and other projects. The Community Organizer must have the capacity to support stakeholder’s efforts, assist in the development, design and
implementation of community participation and outreach to parents, schools, community-based organizations, public agencies and business organizations throughout the target communities.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Establish and maintain contact with residents and community organizations through recruitment and implementation of activities.
Coordinate the Caminos Seguros traffic safety initiative.
Develop and manage systems that ensure active community participation.
Support the establishment and effective management of a Neighborhood Association
Assist communities in the implementation of participation processes and leadership development
Offer support, technical assistance and information to collaborating agencies, community based organizations, schools, youth groups, parentgroups, business organizations and other stakeholder groups
Assist in developing and updating training protocols and elements related to leadership training workshops and other training elements
Participate in community meetings, visibility/events and conferences as needed
Assist in the planning, implementation and promotion of Community & Economic Development Division events and campaigns
Preparation of required monthly reports, communications and administrative functions
Responsible for community building and outreach efforts with the goal of increasing awareness in the community of La Casa’s program and increase participant numbers.
Perform other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience:
Degree in related field or combination of equivalent work experience and education
Two years’ experience in community organizing
Experience in volunteer management, leadership training, meeting facilitation and/or community relations
Experience with public speaking and presentations
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
English/Spanish bi-lingual preferred
Detail oriented high achiever with demonstrated leadership, communication and organizational skills
Excellent writing, verbal, interpersonal skills
Computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office Suite
Vehicle and appropriate auto insurance coverage and a valid NJ driver’s license
Excellent written and oral communications skills including public speaking and written reporting; teaching/workshop facilitation experience is aplus.
A problem solver and self-starter, who demonstrates the ability to think fast on his/her feet; a good team player; able to multi-task; attentive to detail.
Should be able to work independently, handle multiple tasks, be creative and be a team player
Familiarity with non-profit training or social service organizations.
Strong computer skills including experience with MS Office applications, using the Internet and database management.
Other Requirements and Physical Demands:
Professional attire required.
Required to sit and walk for long periods of time.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to a variety of weather conditions.
Schedule:
Monday – Friday – 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Subject to change)
Ability to work evenings, weekends and when necessary to attend community meetings and functions
Flexible schedule – May be required to work evenings and weekends
Ability to travel as needed (in-town and out-of-town trainings and conferences)
